GMRS

GMRS stands for the General Mobile Radio Service. GMRS is a licensed radio service. GMRS is generally used for short range communications. Users can communicate with one another using radios in the 462 and 467 megahertz band.
Users communicating with each other via radio to radio can expect up to 2 miles or less. When purchasing bubble pack FRS/GMRS combo packages, they tend to claim huge distances but, those are based on perfect circumstances. Users communicating with each other through a repeater on a communications tower can expect a range of 5 miles, 10 miles, 20 miles and up to 50 miles or greater.
More information regarding GMRS including licensing information can be found at the FCC’s General Mobile Radio Service page.
The GMRS system here is called the MHC700 Repeater. It is installed on a tower located in Henry County. It can serve the area up to 12 miles using portable radios and further when using mobile radios. Possibly up 25 miles and greater.
The Repeater System I built consists of Two Motorola CDM1250 radios, One 50 Watt Mobile Duplexer, One Zetron ZR310 Community Repeater Panel/Controller. All of these items are installed into a Motorola GR500 Repeater Housing. The GR500 supplies the dc power to everything using its on-board power supply. The repeater is connected to 80 feet of Andrews 7/8 Hardline and is terminated to a Decibel Products 4 Bay Folded Dipole Antenna.
Below is the information you will need to program your commercial radio. This repeater is open to those that are licensed GMRS radio operators. Please be courteous to each other and follow the part 95 rules that govern the General Radio Mobile Service. Thanks, and enjoy GMRS Radio.
